Coffee & Tea Beverage Production Requirements and Product Variants.

Black Coffee and Tea RTD

Define extraction from raw material versus use of purchased extract, solids / filtration, quality targets and storage objective. These choices change the equipment and site cost fundamentally.

Milk or Plant-Base Coffee / Tea

The added base changes hydration, emulsion / stability, heat behavior, allergens and cleaning. Trial the actual formula through the selected preservation and package route.

Botanical / Flavored Beverages

Plant particles, oils, flavor carryover and ingredient sensitivity may require different filtration, mixing and transfer duties. Confirm product identity and qualified acceptance with specialists.

Connect the Production Process

Compare the processing boundary rather than pricing a blend tank as if it included extraction.

  1. Define raw inputsBeans / leaves or bought extract.
  2. Specify accepted concentrateQuality and solids basis.
  3. Map required packagesExtraction / filtration / blending.
  4. Compare complete costRaw handling, waste and operation.
Resolve before procurementThe lowest equipment amount can exclude an entire ingredient-processing step.

Coordinate recipe, ingredients, qualified preservation, cooling and package interfaces.

  1. Define formula envelopeDairy, plant-base or clear product.
  2. Plan representative trialsQualified full-process evaluation.
  3. Assign OEM scopeTreatment and packaging.
  4. Verify accepted outputQuality and useful run time.
Resolve before procurementCold brewing or acidity alone does not establish a safe or shelf-stable packaged product.

Record recipe setup, transfer residue, qualified cleaning, release and package change time.

  1. Log actual transitionInclude next first good package.
  2. Review retained circuitsTanks, valves and manual tasks.
  3. Check shared utilitiesHeating, cooling and returns.
  4. Verify the changed dutyOwner / qualified specialist release.
Resolve before procurementDo not apply one flavor’s changeover improvement to all recipes without measurement.

Equipment & Integration Scope

Review each system by its operating duty and the interfaces to be agreed before procurement.

Coffee & Tea Beverage Equipment Selection: Resolve the Operating Duty First.

Before requesting equipment prices, state whether the plant processes raw beans / leaves or receives an ingredient extract. Then define product quality, ingredient sensitivity, preservation, package and cleaning. This prevents a low blend-room estimate from being compared with a supplier’s much broader extraction and packaging project.

Engineering the Whole Line

Start with the business outcome

A coffee or tea brand may need an equipment project when extraction, ingredient addition, cooling, treatment or package changeovers limit production. Start by defining which of those duties actually belongs in the plant. DPS can discuss process / utility / controls and installation interfaces for an agreed scope; qualified product and specialist suppliers must establish extraction, formulation and preservation requirements.

Confirm the exact coffee & tea beverage product, preservation route and project suitability with DPS before assigning a delivery scope. Confirm extraction, concentration, aroma management, dairy or plant-base blending, thermal / aseptic packages, filling and shelf-life responsibilities before claiming suitability. A coffee / tea project is assessed on its actual recipe and package; this guide does not establish DPS manufacture of extraction or aseptic technology.

Commissioning Tests and Performance Acceptance.

Confirm Extraction or Bought-Base Scope

Agree whether raw-material extraction or purchased-extract blending is included, together with solids, filtration, quality and storage requirements.

Trial the Actual Beverage Formula

Check milk or plant-base additions, botanical particles, heat behavior and package compatibility with the relevant ingredient and equipment specialists.

Verify Transfer and Flavor Changes

Confirm product identity, qualified cleaning, ready-product availability and accepted packaged output across the agreed beverage families.

Plan Your Project

Review the scope, cost assumptions and operating case for your project. The examples and calculators below support early planning and are not DPS quotations.

Compare Operating Corrections, Retrofit and Replacement.

Check whether the retained operation already has the required ingredient and preservation boundary. Measure actual batch / release / package constraints before selecting a targeted adaptation.

Investment boundaryThe illustrative retrofit assumes a qualified compatible product and measured useful time; suitability must be confirmed before using its capacity benefit.

Choose extraction or bought-extract scope, formula families, qualified preservation / package route, demand, utilities and waste basis first.

Investment boundaryInclude specialist process equipment, site, staffing, launch trials and working capital; a generic RTD price is not a complete project quote.

Coffee & Tea Beverage Equipment Price vs Full Installed Project Cost.

Compare proposals with the same product duty, supplier boundaries and acceptance basis. The amount below is a transparent planning example, not a market price range, supplier estimate or DPS quotation.

Separate one-time startup / shutdown cost$35,000
Incremental working capital$25,000
Total initial cash$520,000

The defined scope assumes applicable freight, procurement charges and taxes are included in the owner’s estimate. Add missing civil, land / shell, OEM, environmental, validation and permitting costs explicitly. Site and field conditions, duty, production access and quoted supplier scope determine actual price. Financing is excluded.

Worked Operating Case

Hypothetical owner-budget case: 250 days × 0.5 useful recovered hour/day × 900 good kg/h × 60% realization gives 67,500 incremental sold kg/year after the 90,000 kg demand ceiling. Net price $4/kg less incremental variable cost $2.6/kg gives $1.4/kg contribution. The baseline inputs assume $14,000 energy, $12,000 water / chemistry and $5,000 maintenance reductions per year. Avoided payroll is 0 hours × $40 × 0% cash realization. Verified baseline purchase reduction contributes $0; its basis is unchanged accepted baseline output. Deduct $16,000 added annual fixed cost. Result: $109,500 steady net benefit; initial cash $520,000 includes the separate site, contingency, startup and working-capital inputs. These are original illustrative assumptions, not a quotation, price benchmark or achieved DPS result.

Calculated from these assumptions: steady annual net benefit $109,500; year-one net cash $59,300; cash payback Beyond 5 years; five-year NPV at 10% is −$150,545. Change the assumptions below to test a different case.

Calculation Basis

  • Five-year, pre-tax cash flow. Financing, depreciation and asset resale are excluded.
  • Initial cash includes contingency, startup costs and working capital; year one reflects ramp-up.
  • Output is capped by demand. Count each production gain or verified cash saving once.

Coffee & Tea Beverage Baseline Energy-Cost Worksheet

The default reproduces the main retrofit energy input of $14,000/year before added maintenance. The narrow worksheet is not a product-process calculation and does not automatically transfer values into the ROI model. Additional annual service is included in the main added-fixed-cost allowance; deduct it once.

Coffee & Tea Beverage Equipment and Plant Upgrade FAQ.

Does DPS supply coffee extraction equipment?
Confirm that specialist scope explicitly. This guide addresses assessment and integration interfaces rather than asserting an in-house extraction-machine offering.
Can cold-brewed drinks use a generic filling route?
No. Qualified product / process specialists must establish preservation, storage and package requirements for the actual formula.
Can a milk-coffee SKU share a clear-tea line?
Only after the ingredient, stability, thermal, allergen, cleaning and packaging envelope is assessed and representative trials demonstrate suitability.
Are these prices or returns a DPS commitment?
No. The example inputs exist to make the business-case calculation reviewable. Actual scope, prices, schedule, savings and performance need project-specific assessment and agreement.
What should the first DPS conversation include?
Bring the product and package mix, operating baseline, commercial target, retained assets, site constraints, available outage window and the capital options you are considering. Mark unknowns for measurement or supplier trials.
