THE CHALLENGE
Install a 350,000 Lbs/Week Ground Beef Line Inside a Live, Fully Operational Meat Plant — in Just 6 Months.
The client needed a major capacity expansion in an existing Los Angeles facility without shutting down production for more than a few weeks.
The project required rapid permitting, multi-discipline engineering, relocation of an existing processing room, and coordination of fire suppression changes — all while the plant continued running.
Key Constraints
- 6-month hard deadline
- Maximum 4 weeks downtime
- Live facility with ongoing production
- Complex fire suppression & alarm integration
DPS Solution
Purchased critical-path equipment immediately. Completed all engineering (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural) and permitting in only 4 weeks. Created a war room to manage 12 subcontractors simultaneously while relocating the displaced processing room.
DPS METHODOLOGY
Design • Build • Manage – Executed Under Extreme Pressure
DESIGN
All disciplines engineered in just 4 weeks. Critical equipment procured on day one to protect the schedule. Full coordination of fire suppression and alarm systems through a challenging existing building layout.
BUILD
DPS served as single point of accountability, managing 12 subcontractors in a live plant. Facility modifications and relocation of the displaced processing room executed with minimal disruption.
MANAGE
Dedicated war room for real-time coordination. Strategic early production strategy enabled revenue generation at week 11 — months ahead of full commissioning.
